title. Animear

date. 2019

description. Animear is an interactive and informative audio display that explores the hearing of three distinct animals. The dolphin, the pigeon and the moth. The evolution of animals is a result of multiple attributes but the workings of their senses, like humans, are pivotal to how they manipulate and grow within their very different habitats. From the exploration of the mechanical systems of the chosen sub animals that Animear works with, to the extrapolation of creative ways to communicate animal hearing to human audio systems with visual displays; it is clear that the sense of hearing can strengthen or weaken the tasks that animals face in their lifetimes. For example, the hunting or hiding of predators and prey.

Animear features interactive ‘give it a go’ methods to help guests learn. Both physical tracking and gamification is intertwined through the installation.

My work focuses on the representation of Dolphin echolocation through the creation of tracking headphones, an interactive visual user interface and physical display of abstract objects.
